The Complete Jazz Piano Mentorship
Here’s how you and I can work together to create a clear, defined outcome and a fully structured jazz curriculum built around your exact goals, and exactly how to practice it. All for much less than what you’d spend at Berklee, The New School, or UNT.
I’ll help you identify weaknesses, uncover gaps you don’t even realize are holding you back, and organize everything into a clear, detailed and usable plan. You’ll know exactly what and how to practice, in what order, and how to apply it to real tunes.
Whether you’re focused on blues, bebop, bossa, ballads, modal, modern styles, composition, or arranging, and anything in between, you’ll get step-by-step guidance. No more guessing or drifting—your progress moves forward with clarity and purpose.
Dear friend,
There are people far less musical than you who are getting gigs, improvising and composing confidently, and actually playing the music they hear in their head.
These players have bigger vocabularies, have more command of the keys, and are making consistent and steady progress.
Have you ever wondered why that is?
It’s because these people, musically challenged as they might be, are ruthless action takers.
Meaning:
to play jazz and the music they love,
and then they just do it.
They might not have perfect ears, but they are motivated. So they find a simple model that works and pour all of their energy into doing more of those things that get them making music they’re proud of, in the style and level they’ve always dreamed of.
Truly getting better at jazz piano and breaking through to the next level might feel hard.
But I know there are specific techniques and practice methods that actually make your time at the keyboard efficient.
And if you just focus on the right things in the right order (and cut out all the ways that waste valuable practice time), you’d be confidently making real progress every week.
And playing jazz piano would feel fun again. Imagine that!
Imagine if you actually enjoyed sitting down to practice every day...
Because you knew exactly what to work on, and actually heard improvement at the end of every session.
Imagine if you were finally able to play jazz piano they ways you've always wanted.
MORE IMPORTANTLY:
Imagine having a clear path to real jazz fluency so you can sit down at the piano, play tunes with confidence, and improvise without second-guessing yourself.
With exact weekly guidance, honest feedback on your playing, and a detailed, structured practice plan that eliminates confusion and wasted time.
Someone who has already solved the jazz piano and practice problems you’re facing, and can quickly diagnose what’s holding you back.
How much faster would you reach your goals?
I bet pretty damn quick!
Right?
Well…
Most people don't have that person in their lives.
Most of the time, the path to mentorship involves chasing pros who are too busy, don’t really understand what you’re trying to do, can’t teach effectively, and leave you hoping their “magic” somehow rubs off on you.
Or it involves paying tens of thousands to a top jazz school, only to:
Spend half your time in general classes that aren't related to music at all.
Worrying about keeping up,
Hoping the training actually serves your goals, and getting a return on your investment.
All while being left with mountains of crippling debt.
That kind of sucks.
So I thought to myself...
What if we flip this whole model on it's head?
I wanna let you in on a little secret...
Back in 2009 when I first decided I wanted to be a jazz musician, I wish I’d had someone sit me down and map out a specific plan to go from accomplished Classical pianist, to confidently soloing on any jazz tune, playing in jam sessions, taking gigs, and composing my own music.
I learned the path from ground zero, by trial and error over the course of many, many years.
But over time, I figured out what actually mattered and what was a waste of time when it came to practicing.
What actually made a difference when it came time to solo, and what was just a load of theory that clogged my brain and paralyzed my fingers when it was showtime.
I started keeping track of wins and struggles, mapping out a clear path forward without all the extra distractions that don’t actually lead to real progress.
Then...
I would create personal, structured practice routines for my students.
They'd know exactly what to do when they sat down at the keyboard.
Plus...
They had someone to hold them accountable. They had someone in their corner who would jump in if they were wasting time on things that had minimal impact on their playing.
Or give them some honest encouragement to keep them moving forward.
What was really cool was that over the course of our time together, they were able to look back on all the progress that was made:
✅ Pinpoint exactly where they were on their jazz journey
✅ Show them how far they had come
✅ Tell them all the exciting things they had to look forward to.
That's the problem with piecing together your own jazz education.
It’s overwhelming—hard to know what to learn first, where you are in the process, and what actually deserves your focus.
By following a clear, step-by-step roadmap and getting regular feedback, my students achieved what I call… Rapid Jazz Fluency:
Confidently playing tunes by ear with full arrangements, pro voicings, techniques and improvisation—all because they were part of The Complete Jazz Piano Mentorship program.

Levi Clay is well-known in the guitar world as an established pro in multiple styles (including jazz), a celebrated transcriptionist, successful YouTuber (140K + subscribers), author of over 20 guitar method books, and has been teaching guitar for over 20 years.
But when he switched his focus to the piano, he struggled to translate what he heard in his head into what he could play and apply to the piano.
Here’s how my mentorship program helped him break through:
"My actual understanding of the inner workings of piano, and how best to apply concepts I already knew, were severely lacking.
Justin has really helped me dig into the areas I felt I needed improvement in and the areas I didn't realize I needed improvement in."

Sometimes all you need is a mentor to take you from scattered or overwhelmed to a clear, personalized roadmap.
If you’ve got the burning desire to play jazz piano without guessing your way through it — especially when it comes to how to practice, what to prioritize, and how to build a clear roadmap toward your goals — and you’ve already got the basics under your fingers, you’re in the right place.
From here, it’s simply a matter of installing the right systems, structure, and practice habits so your progress becomes clear, intentional, and fast.
I’d like to be the guy who helps you make this happen.
I've mentored hundreds of students over the years through private lessons, mentorships, and my courses.
And now… I’d like to help you, too.
Introducing…
Is a complete step-by-step, in depth program for instrumentalists, producers, and composers to confidently navigate jazz piano, jazz harmony, improvisation, and sound like a real jazz pianist – in just 90 days.
Here’s who this mentorship program is a good fit for:
Serious musicians, producers, and composers
Who want real jazz fluency in harmony, language and improvisation, but feel scattered, overwhelmed or incomplete.
This mentorship gives you a highly structured roadmap for actually understanding and using jazz in real musical contexts for the long-term, tailored to your specific goals.
You’ll learn how to break down tunes, internalize vocabulary, and apply pro-level skills creatively across styles, instead of guessing or borrowing surface-level ideas.
Working or advancing jazz musicians
If you’re already playing, gigging, or sitting in — but feel like your progress is stagnant or has plateaued...
This is for uncovering blind spots and weaknesses, tightening your skills and building the the ones you need to confidently get to the next level.
The focus is clarity, structure and real-world application, not more scattered and random information.
Dedicated pianists who are past the absolute beginner stage
This mentorship is for pianists who already have basic keyboard skills and musical understanding, but feel unclear about how to actually transition into jazz or how to navigate getting to their goals.
If you come from a Classical background, this is especially relevant — I’ve lived that exact transition myself.
This program is perfect if you’re not starting from zero, but are missing a clear roadmap for improvisation, harmony, repertoire, how it all fits together, and want exact, step-by-step guidance on how to develop those areas effectively.
This is for late beginners, intermediate players, and working musicians who are tired of guessing what to practice, in what order, and why — and want a structured roadmap they can rely on long-term.
I open mentorship only a few times a year and take on only a few mentees at a time.
So if you want me to PERSONALLY coach you every single week so you can reach your jazz goals faster… and so you can stop wondering what you should be doing next, then…
Is there a money-back guarantee?
No. Only join if you’re serious. In this world, half-effort won't get you results.
Do I get feedback?
Yes. You'll get weekly detailed feedback on specific things I ask you to learn and play for me.
If you want feedback on other music you're learning, you can get a Feedback 4-Pack where you can submit 4 playing samples and get specific feedback and next steps.
What happens if I miss a week?
Don’t. Make a commitment to yourself to see this through. You’ll be amazed at how fast your playing can progress when you stop half-assing your practice and actually commit to your goals.
I will help you every step of the way. Of course, emergencies happen. If you miss a week or two, just get back on the keyboard.
Can I send a Loom/video question or message?
Nope. Quick questions and check-ins are fine via email or text during business hours, but long or detailed questions should be saved for your sessions.
Trust the process — this keeps things focused, clear, and ensures every minute of your mentorship actually moves you forward.
What if I want extra 1:1 calls?
Everything you need to make serious progress is included in the mentorship, but if you feel like you need more personal time, you can book extra sessions.
We’ll cover mindset in mentorship too, but I’m not a therapist — I’m the guy who will take you from scattered and overwhelmed to having a clear roadmap, so you always know exactly what to practice and how to sound legit.
You’re going to tell me what you’re struggling with and I’m going to tell you how to solve the problem. And then you’re going to do it.
You follow the plan, apply it, and play jazz in ways you didn’t think were possible — and we're going to have a lot of fun in the process.
